Tears Bled

A man sits in sorrow beside a flickering candle in a dark gothic chamber, red tears on his face

Have you ever loved someone your family swore you couldn’t?

I sailed across wild seas toward my fate,
and rested my tired head on stones of hate.
I flew through the veiled world into your spell,
and heard the stories created in Hell.

To be lost within an enchanting smile,
with red hot fires that burned across the miles.
Your captivating eyes released my chains
while your gentle caress soothed years of pain.

You kissed me with your soft electric lips;
against bigoted rule, we thrust our hips.
We ignored the hate and embraced our scars;
dark tears bled from heavenly Asian stars.

I saw the sun set over one man’s heart;
family held firm and kept them apart.
Freedom to love asked too much from above;
the Church held power over who could love.

—H, kissed beneath the stars they told me not to name
