Ever felt like the only thing you’re not allowed to be is… yourself?
Straight, White and Male;
labels you need to ditch.
Check your privilege;
life will shine if you identify as a witch.
Just try to resist,
in our liberal, tolerant society.
A bigot;
A racist;
A misogynist, if you wish.
Even the language is against you.
This civilised society wants you in a dress;
just be anything but you.
Feel at ease with your gender?
Time to find your counter identity.
Lie on a couch and discover you once kissed your uncle;
it’s time to embrace a gender-neutral entity.
Just try to resist,
in our liberal, tolerant society.
A homophobe;
A fattist;
A chauvinist—God forbid!
Even the language hates you.
This civilised society wants you all confused;
just be anything but you.
Man-up, Man-flu;
the language is so diseased;
It wants to bring you to your knees and see you in a dress.
Gender-fluid, Gender-neutral;
the words are so contrived;
they want to bring you to a point of shame – see you distressed.
You can be anything you want;
it’s such a free and liberal society.
There’s no limit to what you can become;
just don’t become you.
Just try to resist,
in our liberal, tolerant society.
Mansplaining;
Manspreading;
Manterrupting—oh, for shame!
Even the language is polluted.
This civilised society wants you destroyed;
you can be anything you want…but you can’t be you.
