Prose Poetry
Prose poetry captivates through its evocative imagery, emotional depth, use of repetition for emphasis, skilful metaphors, and sometimes the pleasing effect of rhyme, creating a unique blend of poetic and narrative elements.
Prose poetry emerged in 19th-century France and Germany, specifically within the European literary scene. The German Romantics Jean Paul, Novalis, Friedrich Hölderlin and Heinrich Heine may be seen as precursors of the prose poem.
I love writing prose poetry; its unbound nature gives me a sense of liberation and freedom, like escaping a cage. This format lets me explore the subtleties of feeling and meaning far beyond the constraints of traditional verse.
My regular poems frequently originate from a prior prose poem, a process I revisit often, the initial prose often providing a foundation of imagery and emotion that I then refine.
